I have a couple of middle vintage Gold Tops that I have toured and recorded with most of my career.
A few years back, I realized they had become way too valuable/sentimental to be ‘on the road’. So the search for a suitable replacement began. I had other guitars, but the mojo, sound and playability of my ’69 felt irreplaceable. When I met Reuben, I was touring with a modified PRS and a tweaked ’82 Deluxe.
Reuben asked me “what would be my dream guitar?”… easy, I replied, a ’54 Gold Top, now unobtainable to most.
“Ahh, I can make one of those!” he laughed. Sometime later he visited me backstage and opened a guitar case… there was a spec perfect ‘54 replica. I took the guitar onstage that very night, and apart from a tweak of the action, I’ve done nothing to it. It instantly became my #1 touring guitar. Actually, on the last Screaming Jets album, Professional Misconduct… I would say the album is 50/50 my ’69 and the Reuben #33.
If that wasn’t enough, Reuben took on a project to create a Guitar/Mandolin double neck Rockpig for me. It is an incredible and functional thing of beauty. I have played the doubleneck on stage to reproduce the mandolin solo in October Grey, and also at blues festivals to play tracks from my Blue Mandolin CD, it always blows people’s minds!
I feel fortunate to have met Reuben and have him create these musical masterpieces for me, they are quite simply guitars I could not do without.

Ordered myself a 2nd Reuben “Burst” last August recieved it about 4 weeks ago..Oh man this guitar has far surpassed my expectations.

Reuben hand selects all the timbers/blanks and he even sent me via email a number of Maple Top Blank examples to select from, the sound quality fit and finish of the guitar is die for ..

I have owned a number of custom shop Les Paul’s and have actually been fortunate enough to play a 57 and this guitar I think comes closest to that quality of tone ..

It was the 12th of September and the day had finally come when my Rockpig Summit #2336 arrived via TNT at 10:45am from Cairns. The anticipation had been building steadily since I ordered it in June.

With every email update, and every photo of the latest progress, the cutout, the shaping, the painting, the hardware, the excitement grew. By the time it arrived, I couldn’t restrain myself and I ripped the box open like a rabid dog. It was like being a kid again on Christmas morning.

The prize inside didn’t disappoint, it was everything that I had been waiting for and more. 
The candy apple red finish, bright, shiny and sparkly like a disco fire engine. The beautiful roasted maple neck and rosewood fingerboard, smooth and glossy and super fast.

The sound from its handmade pickups, clear, solid, resonant and fat. The attention to every detail is second to none. It is a guitar that was made to admire both from afar and right up close. It has a versatility of sound that makes it just as comfortable playing a Ray Parker Jr funk groove, as a Jimi Hendrix classic or an AC/DC anthem. It is really a Masterpiece for all seasons/sessions.

Reuben, you have done it again, you have gone those extra steps beyond the last pinnacle of perfection, in fact the name says it all, you have reached the Summit! 

From the Grover Magnum Lock Tuners to the Handwound Pickups, from the sparkling candy apple red nitro finish to the Vega tremolo system, no indulgence has been spared in making this, the guitar dreams are made of. Thank you so much for this wonderful work of art, this trusty workhorse for years to come.
